How Time Duration & Interval Conversions Work
Time duration measurement calculates the elapsed interval between events. Unlike purely decimal systems, standard time uses a mixed base: 60 seconds per minute, 60 minutes per hour, 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365.25 days per astronomical calendar year. Payroll processing, project management, and scientific computing require converting between decimal hours and raw seconds.
Time Scaling Constants (Base: Second)
Worked Example: Converting 72 Hours to Days
Base Seconds: 72 hours * 3,600 s/hour = 259,200 seconds
Target Days: 259,200 seconds / 86,400 s/day = 3.0 days
Result: A 72-hour project sprint corresponds to exactly 3 standard days.
