How Working Days & Business Weekdays Are Counted
Planning commercial delivery timelines, project sprints, notice periods, and contractual service agreements requires knowing exact business days. Filtering out weekend non-working days ensures realistic project scheduling.
This calculator evaluates Monday through Friday business days. It does not deduct regional public, federal, or bank holidays. To determine net billable hours for your jurisdiction, deduct local holidays from the calculated working days total.
Measures the entire elapsed duration from start date to end date inclusive: Total Days = End Date - Start Date + 1.
Iterates through each date in the range, incrementing the working counter only when day of the week is between Monday (1) and Friday (5).
Worked Example: Monday, Oct 6 to Friday, Oct 17
Total Calendar Days: 12 days
Working Days (Mon–Fri): 10 days
Weekend Days Excluded: 2 days (Saturday Oct 11, Sunday Oct 12)
To project future delivery deadlines or add days to a calendar date, use Date Calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does this calculator exclude public or bank holidays?
No. This tool specifically filters out weekend days (Saturdays and Sundays). Because statutory and religious public holidays vary significantly by country, state, and corporate policy, public holidays are not excluded automatically.
Are the start and end dates included in the working days count?
Yes. The calculation is inclusive of both the start date and the end date. If either falls on a Saturday or Sunday, that weekend day is excluded from the working total.
How is this different from the Date Difference Calculator?
Date Difference measures total calendar elapsed time (all 365 days of the year broken down into years, months, and days). The Working Days Calculator specifically isolates Monday-through-Friday business workdays.
How does the tool handle leap years?
JavaScript date objects evaluate February 29 automatically during leap years, ensuring day-of-week indexing remains exact.
Can I use this to calculate payroll periods?
Yes. Many project managers and HR specialists use weekday counts to verify billing hours and sprint durations across standard 5-day workweeks.
