How Hexadecimal to Decimal Conversion Works
Hexadecimal (base 16) provides a compact, human-readable shorthand for binary data. Because 16 is 2^4, every hexadecimal digit corresponds to exactly 4 binary bits (one nibble). Web colors (such as #FFFFFF), memory addresses, and byte dumps use hex notation universally.
Worked Example: Convert Hex 2F to Decimal
Position 1 (16^1 = 16): Digit 2 * 16 = 32
Position 0 (16^0 = 1): Letter F (value 15) * 1 = 15
Total Decimal Sum: 32 + 15 = 47 (Base 10)
